A Look Inside
When I started writing Ohio Homeschooling it was going to be just a chapter. Then I came to realize the vast opportunities that exist in this state and thought back to when I began homeschooling. I thought about how I was concerned, worried, unsure and even fearful because I didn’t really know what I was doing.
That is when I realized the need for a resource which would give pertinent details to both the new homeschooling family as well as those who have been homeschooling for years. This book has been authored published and distributed by myself. I am linking to an external site where this book can be purchased.
So this guide grew to be a full scope of what homeschooling in Ohio can look like. In the book you will find information on homeschooling legalities: the how-to’s of notification and assessment, resources to find forms and even legal assistance if you were to discover you needed that, tips for how to fill out forms, what information to give, and what to expect once you have filed your documents.
There is also a section in the book about homeschool enhancement opportunities, which include listings for co-ops, support groups and even meet up groups. This listing has direct web links to each of the groups web page and/or contact information. You will find that these are divided by state regions, helping you to narrow down ones that are pertinent to where you live. There is a listing for opportunities to expand your children’s learning with enhancement classes available throughout the state. From nature study classes available at local nature centers, to art classes and gyms, these classes are sure to increase your ability to provide a well rounded education as well as offer the kids a chance to socialize.
Ohio is a large stage geographically speaking but more than that it is rich in history, heritage and culture. Because of that, the wealth of field trip opportunities could keep you busy all year long. Learning about history, science, nature or culture through interactive hands on and visual experiences creates a memory in a way that book learning never could. The section in the book on field trip opportunities in the state of Ohio is divided into categories, from the arts to sports, from history to science, from amusement parks to nature centers and everything in between. The listings cover every corner of the state with direct web links to internet sites where you can get more information, locations and hours.
Wanting to help families to have a complete picture of what homeschooling is about I have included a section on homeschooling methods and learning styles. My hope through this section is to help families to see that homeschooling looks very different in each and every home. There is no need to rush to choosing a method, or even a curriculum and that through understanding ones children and preferred educational philosophies homeschooling parents can truly customize an educational plan to best fit their individual families.
Additionally, you will find a listing of resources available within the state that can be beneficial to you on your homeschooling journey. From conventions, to organizations, to educational resource suppliers. Knowing that you live in a state with a vast array of homeschooling resources, communities and even support can help you to be assured that home education is not only a valid choice but could be the best choice for your family.
Mark Stevenson, founder and director of Ohioans for Educational Freedom says:
“This is a most-needed resource for anyone home schooling, or considering home schooling! Renee was quite thorough and she outlines everything one needs. From my nearly 28 years of being a home school dad in Ohio, I think this is something every homeschooling parent should possess. You will refer to it over and over.”
