One of My Favorite Homeschool Items and Thirty Days to Give Thanks: Day 27

 One of my Favorites:

100_5323[1]I thought I would share with you a favorite homeschool item. It is such for both myself and for Little Man.
It is the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary.

This book is not like most dictionaries. It has the basis, yes, but it offers so much more. There are full color graphics on every page. There are labeled illustrations of many words as well as diagrams of things like escalators, clipper ships and termite mounds. It also has inset information about subjects like world history, spelling and grammar tips.

I often find when assigning spelling vocabulary and dictionary work, that Jonathan get’s caught up in studying the diagram on a page. He could spend hours just studying the illustrations. Many times he will run to the classroom to grab his dictionary and look up something that he heard on a television show or out and about in the world. There are so many good illustrations and diagrams that I have often copied and enlarged items (Just for study purposes), to add to his general studies so that he can get a closer look.

The back of the dictionary contains, the Braille alphabet, the American sign language alphabet, A grammar guide, punctuation guide, maps of the world, flags of the world, US Presidents and even a measurement table.

My particular book, is copyrighted 2007. I’m sure there is a newer version, but I so love this, I don’t even want to look and see if there is a newer one.

If you are in need of a good Children’s Dictionary, I highly recommend this one.

Thirty Days to Give Thanks: Day 27

I can’t believe we are nearing the end of this blog link up. It has been an interesting month. I’ve enjoyed reading the posts of those who chose to link up with my co-host Davonne and myself. It is an interesting way to look into the hearts of others, by seeing what they are thankful for.

Today I am thankful for my beautiful Little Man. I say often that he is my life’s greatest surprise and blessing from my loving Father. His name literally means, God Given Laughter. Because I laughed on that day. Whenever I look back at a picture of myself on that day, I think how different my eyes look. There is joy in those eyes, and while I hope that I have joyful eyes everyday of my life, I know without a doubt that the day Little Man became my son, my heart was filled with joy.

1 Samuel 2:1
And Hannah prayed and said:
“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
My horn is exalted in the Lord.
I smile at my enemies,
Because I rejoice in Your salvation.

O Holy Father, I cannot but praise your for the way that you build families. I thank you for hearing my prayer, seeing my heart and bring about all that needed to happen for this child to be brought into my arms. May I honor you as a mother, may I train him in the nurture and admonition of your word. May I lead him to your path of righteousness, and help to set his feet firmly upon the path. I thank you for the laughter in my heart and the joy in my eyes. I praise you dear Lord for blessing me with this child. Through the name of your own precious Son, Jesus, I pray.

It’s still not to late to join in the fun. Just add your link to the Inlinkz Tool below, grab the button, add it to your page and let us know what you are thankful for.
