15 Summer Dinner Ideas for Steak

Grilling is a classic American summer past-time. It’s right up there with baseball and apple pie. When I think of grilling I think of steak. Steak is a fabulous summer dinner idea because it doesn’t take long to cook. Depending on thickness of the meat and the desired cooked temperature (doneness) you can cook up a steak in just a few minutes.

I grew up eating meat and potatoes. Cube steak was a regular at our family table. Probably because it was affordable, My mom always made it by breading it and frying it, similar to chicken fried steak. It was always a family favorite.

Summer Dinner Ideas that Puts Steak on the Table

▬ This Cuban Cube Steak offers an unexpected twist on an old classic dish. Cube steak has long been a staple in American households because of its affordability. It needs a quick cook to stay tender, but offers a lot of flavor. Caroline of Caroline’s Cooking brings it back to your plates with a Cuban twist of lime, garlic and onion, and fantastic summer flavors.

▬ Your kids are gonna love this twist on nachos! Loaded Steak Potato Nachos from Stephanie at Parenting Chaos to be precise. You can eat this without the potatoes if you want, or replace them with sweet potatoes or even, parsnips. But, there are so many flavors in this “nacho” dish everyone will just gobble it up.

▬ There is something so unique about a London Broil that I can’t quite put my taste buds on. The savory, umami, melt-in your mouth tender steak just fully satisfies! This Italian London Broil Steak from Carol at The Gardening Cook is sure to please. It would make a great date night dinner in with the hubby (hint, hint).

▬ Why is it that bleu cheese and steak go together so well? I am not a huge fan of bleu cheese, but you put it on a steak and I’ll devour the entire thing and sop of the goodness with some bread too. Denise’s Blue Cheese Marinated Flank Steak available at My Life Cookbookis fast and simple when you grill it and couldn’t be easier for a summer dinner idea.

▬ I don’t know about your husband, but mine loves pasta. He could it eat several times a week and be totally pleased about it. I on the other hand, only want it on occasions when I want something deeply satisfying. Oh man! Satisfying is exactly what this Philly Cheesesteak Pasta is! Christina at It Is A Keeper created this fabulous recipe that is a crowd pleaser.

▬ Don’t look at the pictures! Ok, well you kind of have to if you are going to cook these amazing steaks. But, as soon as you see Theresa’s pictures at Dear Creatives of her Marinated Grilled Steaks your mouth is gonna start watering. So be warned.

So, what’s my favorite way to eat a steak? I prefer a ribeye cut, or strip steak. I like to let the meat warm a bit before cooking, so I take it out of the fridge, drizzle it with olive oil, sprinkle both sides with mineral salt & cracked black pepper. I cover the plate with wrap and let the meat rest for a bit.

If grilling, I heat the coals. Yep, I grill over charcoal rather than propane. To make it easier I use a chimney starter. Once the grill is heated, I cook the steaks on slightly indirect heat. I cook for about 4 minutes on one side, then flip the steak and cook another 4 minutes on the other for an 8 minute steak. I prefer my steaks to be medium. For my husband and son, they get a couple more minutes each as they prefer a medium/well temperature.

It’s a super simple way to grill a steak but it really allows the flavor of the meat to stand out. If I’m not grilling I do the same process in a well-seasoned cast-iron pan

What’s your favorite way to cook a steak? What dishes do you enjoy steak in?
