Spring Cleaning Has Begun
So there has been quite a flurry of activity around here of late. Walls are getting scrubbed, furniture dusted, carpets vacuumed. The window sills needed a good cleaning. Yuck!
Did you know that spring cleaning has it’s roots in scripture?
“ Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.” Exodus 12:15*
This commandment from God was given to remove all leaven from the house of an Israelite family. Over time, the Jews behan to cleanse every part of their home in order to ensure they gollowed the very basic command. This tradition continues in what we now know as spring cleaning, althought we no longer re,ove the leaven, just the dirt.
So on Monday, I was having the moms from our co-op to start the planning for next year. Of course as most Martha’s of the world I was busily cleaning up the house for their arrival. There were a few projects needing done and rather than focus on the necessary things for my meeting I found myself grabbing a can of paint and painting the stairs. That’s one of those jobs that once you start, you can’t stop in the middle of the job. Then once painted, you can’t walk on it until dried. So I had to go outside and in a different door every time I needed to switch levels in my home. The whole time I was painting I was thinking…‘I can’t believe I’m doing this.‘ It got finished though and the meeting was had and still I think, ‘Why did I do that?‘
Lot’s more to clean up over the next few days. A few more rooms need carpet cleaned, several closets and drawers need to be cleaned out. I am hoping to do all this by Monday. Then when Monday comes the outside work will begin.
I hope to get the garden started soon, as I’m having visions of fresh peas, lettuce and early summer tomatoes. mmmm…
All part of being a good keeper. This verse in Titus 2 has truly helped my overall attitude toward my role within the family.
Oh and yes, school has also been occurring during all this busy-ness. We don’t usually take spring break. I’d rather work through spring and be done by Memorial Day weekend.

Are we somehow related? LOL Painting the stairs would be something I would do! I’ll get started on a cleaning project and I my eye will catch something that needs to be fixed, but could probably wait, but I jump into the project anyway, losing the main focus of what I was doing to begin with.
I mentioned this to the mom’s from co-op who came over that evening. They all laughed and said they do this too! It must be a woman thing. My hubby thought I had lost it! LOL I quite like how my stairs look now!
I love any kind of cleaning. 😀
Well I love a clean house not sure about the process, although I am trying to be a more joyful keeper. 🙂
