Finishing Up and Looking for New
I’m finishing up a few stray curricula this week. Liitle man ended Spelling yesterday. We shall finish elementary math by Friday. That’s scarey! Since we found those baby kittens I’m going ahead with the lesson on Human Growth from the Aplogia’s Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy which will end two years in that book. Don’t let that scare you, I prefer to take science slow so that Little Man can explore till his heart is content. He needs to finish up a couple of writing assignments and then we are done!
Our final so long to academics 2011/2012 will be the Fun Field Day my friend Angie organizes!
I’m still working to narrow down my plan for next year. With a new eye out for differentiation I’m taking it slowly.
I am going to continue with Apologia’s Exploring Creation Series most likely the Zoology 3 Animals of the 6th Day. I shall be using (and I’m quite excited about this) Harmony Fine Arts which explores Artists and their Art, leading students to their own work as well as composers and their music. I think this will be a perfect fit for J. Plus they follow a classical apporach of chronological study so I can use this in conjunction with Mystery of History which we will continue in. I am looking to add in a complete curricula which incorporates this history there are two I am looking at Illuminations by Bright Ideas Press which is the publisher for MOH or Learning Adventures which is a unit study that follows chronological history and can be used in conjunction with MOH. I am undecided still on this so if you have suggestions I’d love hear from you.
For math we are moving right into Algebra! YIKES! I’m going old school on this one, literally, my old school text book from when I was in highschool. I looked at a lot if math curricula when I was at convention, I found that they are written for the struggling learner and not the advanced learner. I need something that challenges little man but doesn’t bog him down with Word Problems because his reading comprehension level does not match his math skill level. When I discovered my old text book on the shelf I knew that was the one. I plan to use Kahn Academy to help me to teach the concepts because I am not real proficient in math.
I want to add in Latin this year also and a more thorough Bible curricula, so those I am still researching. But, after typing all of this out, I see that I am further along in my decisions than I had previously thought, I just have to actually make a couple decisions and then place my orders.
