Five Minute Friday: Grasp on Reality

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve engaged in a Five Minute Writing, I connect with Lisa-Jo Baker where a group of bloggers spend Friday’s with a 5-Minute Write. Lisa-Jo supplies the topic we provide the free form writing. No real editing, no real in depth thought, just the freedom to write for 5 flat minutes.

Five Minute Friday
Today’s Topic: Grasp
Go.
This week my father-in-law has been in the hospital. On Sunday he began exhibiting confused behavior. The doctor’s thought perhaps a stroke, but the MRI and catscan did not reveal that to be true. Monday and Tuesday he continued to exhibit strange and erratic behavior. He did not seem to have a true grasp on reality.
In his own mind however he felt quite lucid and couldn’t understand why we thought anything was wrong. He is doing a lot better, but still insists there was nothing wrong in the first place.
This topic sure has me thinking. How often do we percieve our grasp of reality as the only one. How often do we think that our way and our way of thinking is what is real when others see something entirely different. Is your grasp a true reality or is mine, what if they are different? How do we determine what is true in this world where everyone has their own opinion?
Ah Grasp on reality… but the question is… Whose reality?
Stop.
