This Week…Diligence Pays Off
Working with New Online Planner
Bible:
Little Man worked on a Bible project specific for his Sunday morning Bible class with our congregation. They are working on a timelining/genealogy project starting with Adam; which is awesome and so fitting for our homeschool which follows a chronological Bible/history study.
Math:
Last week we started a new online math, Uzinggo. I am finding it to have many benefits. The entire lesson approach offers more structure for Little Man, which he is very much liking. Not being a structured kind of girl I was a bit skeptical but so far he is being diligent about getting his lessons completed.
Literature:
We worked through 2 more chapters in “Tirzah” which we are reading on our PC Kindle. I like that I can save $ while using the Kindle app, but I really do miss paper books.
In Tirzah this week, Old Hanna and Merrie helped the camp as they faced a plague. After it was over, old Hanna died. It was a sad moment when that happened especially for her adopted Egyptian daughter, Merrie. Tirzah’s mother had a baby girl and then Tirzah’s famiily has discovered that she is especially good at doing for others in time of need.
Science:
With most of Pinnipeds completed Little Man did a science experiment on blubber. It was a fun and tasty experiment using peanut butter, however I think I was a little over zealous in the amount that I used because as thick as it was I couldn’t get the temperature to adjust in a timely enough manner. We would have been there all day. Next week I will be doing the one with crisco. Fun times.
Language Arts:
I got a new affiliate book from Prufrock Press this week called “A Sentence A Day.” As I’ve shared earlier this year we are doing more proofreading exercises to help firm up the grammar skills. This book offers a daily sentence editing exercise.
It is not a workbook but rather a guide for teachers. It gives the sentence, shows what is incorrect, correct and what to fix. I write the sentence for Jonathan in his notebook, then tell him how many errors there are. He then identifies the errors and re-writes the sentence correctly. He is loving it, and frankly so am I.
He also worked through some grammar diagramming sentences exercises. At one point he said, “Mom, this is easy.” Which made my heart glad. I told him how I love diagramming sentences and he said, “I Do too.”
Latin:
Practiced the Latin flashcards.
Homeschool Group:
We had our group session this week. The children are loving the LEGO class. They are given a variety of challenges. This week I divided the kids into teams of 2 by having them select a block, then matching their colors. Then they had 10 minutes to build. After their build they did show and tell. Little Man and his partner built a river cleaning system that I personally think the EPA should take a look at.
They also had an estimation challenge. I had a LEGO cup full of mini-figs. They had to estimate the number of mini-figs in the cup. The closest to the actual number won a LEGO kit. Then they had a team of 3 or 4 challenge. They divided by selecting a brick, this time they matched their shape and could build whatever they wanted in the time remaining in class which was only about 8 minutes. I’m always impressed with how much they build in a short amount of time.
For their activity time they made T-shirt designs using sandpaper and crayons. The kids drew their design on sandpaper. Then laid the paper onto a t-shirt. Then the activity leaders ironed the design onto the paper. They turned out great!
In our personal life this week we are prayerful for our friends as they seek custody of children they are caring for. We are preparing to go to my parents next week for Thanksgiving.
In blogging I’ll be doing a bit of updating on the blog, so bear with me while I get everything in order.

Phyllis,
We did have a great week. 🙂 His Bible class teacher did a great job prepping everything they needed for the project.

Hi Renee! Thank you so much for visiting my site. I LOVE finding Moms of only children. 🙂 I saw Uzinggo but haven’t really checked it out. We are working [or screaming at times :)] our way through Algebra I this year. I never thought I would like Kindle books but we have come to love them!! They are just easier to read to me, although some people think the opposite. I would love to link up but I guess I am just not seeing the linkup. 🙂 I will be back!! Love your ‘home on the web’. 🙂

Karen,
Sorry about that. It is there. Trying a new widget this week. Just click where it says “An InLinkz Link-up” the link up is on another page. Trying to figure out how to change that.
Thanks I think my home on the web is pretty cozy, looking to update it a bit though. 🙂
Dawn
