How I’ve Grown as a Blogger over the Years

Have You Wondered How to Become a Blogger?

I’m a writer. I love writing and have always enjoyed writing in various forms. A few years ago I wanted to expand my writing so that others could read my work. I guess you could say I wanted a bigger audience. So I started blogging. Learning how to be a blogger took time.

In all honesty, I had trouble at first getting over putting myself out there in such a public way. I was kind of afraid of what others would think or say about what I had to say. Yet, I knew that I had a need to write that I couldn’t deny. It was overwhelming sometimes, the need to write. I simply couldn’t stop. Looking back, I now know that I really didn’t know what I was doing, or how to do it. I kept writing, hitting publish, and sharing with my friends on Facebook.

I didn’t know much about blogs and blogging. I had to do a lot of research. When I didn’t know something, I Google searched it until I found it.

What I’ve Learned as a Blogger

  • How to use a blog editor in Blogger, WordPress, Wix and Weebly.
  • Take, edit, optimize photos and add them to posts.
  • How to design a webpage.
  • How to disclose.
  • How to collaborate with other bloggers.
  • Working with advertisers and sponsors.
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Google Analytics
  • Webmaster Tools
  • Social Media Networking

…and so much more.

My tech/savvy husband tells me often how impressed he is with my computing skills since I began learning. Yet, I always feel like there is more to learn, more to tackle and more to understand.

That’s the thing about being a blogger. The online world is ever changing, ever evolving. To be a good blogger, you need to learn to adapt. You need to learn how to stay up-to-date with what web trends are so you can stay relevant in a sea of webpages.

That’s what I’ve learned as a blogger. I’ve learned how to find what I need to learn. I’ve learned to adapt and how to remain patient and diligent. I’ve discovered within myself the ability to stick with it even when I find myself frustrated.

I have learned so much in the few short years I’ve been blogging.  In fact, I’ve started to put my knowledge to work for me. I recently began offering my services as a Virtual Assistant for other bloggers and small businesses.

It has been a lot of work and has taken dedication on my part to stick with it. I wish that when I got started that would have known how to find the information I needed by using excellent resources from experienced bloggers. It would have saved me so much time.

Now, I know that these resources do exist!

You do not have to be a writer to be a blogger. Blogging can come in many different formats. I know bloggers who only blog with images, photo bloggers.  I also know bloggers who blog about crafting and share crafting ideas, tips, photos, and instructions. I know bloggers who are cooking/recipe bloggers who only share recipes. Then there are bloggers who blog about home decorating and their posts are filled with ideas, images and perhaps instructional how-to ideas. With blogging you are only limited by your imagination. If you can think of an idea for a blog, you can make it happen.

 Skyrocket Blog Pageviews

This blog course is the best thing I’ve found for learning how to utilize the awesome resources found in Google Analytics. Before taking this course, Google Analytics was just one of those things I knew I needed to monitor the number of pageviews I get on my blog. I didn’t understand all of the data contained within it’s features.

This course helped me to not only read that data, but the actionable tasks walked me through step-by-step how to take the key information contained in G.A. and turn that into the right way to funnel pageviews, promote socially, and convert to increased pageviews for my blog.

Dominate The Search Engines

The thing I love about this as well as Skyrocket is the actionable tasks that teach you step-by-step how to do what you need to make the most of Google’s Webmaster Tools. Even if you’ve already installed Webmaster Tools, chances are you are not fully utilizing it’s resources to increase your presence on search engines. This is what you need to do just that.
