Juggling the Proverbial Balls
I’m starting to feel as if I have too many balls in the air. Don’t get me wrong. Everything I am doing is good stuff. The problem is these activities are taking time away from family time. I know I should pull out of some things, yet the thought of determining which things brings me stress, and I’m afraid potentially bring inadvertent hurt to others. I’m involved in 5 different Bible Studies outside of family studies and regular worship studies. One takes 2 evenings every week, another is for the 3rd and 4th grade class at our congregation. Then there is a group study with ither members ofmour church family…

This Week… Joyful Accomplishments
This has been a pretty good week. J made some huge strides academically and personally. As previously posted he has developed the desire to, Write. He also took some initiative yesterday and wrote his own to-do list for the school day. With only a couple minor tweaks on my part, he accomplished the whole list. He finished reading his 3rd chapter book of the year, “The Trumpet of the Swan” by e.b. white. He has now read all 3 of White’s children’s books. He finished unit 2 of 6th grade math, fractions. I never thought I’d be able to get him through fractions because math is my weakest subject but it…

Enough
I never feel like I do enough. It doesn’t seem to matter what I’m doing I always feel like I could do more. I have especially felt this way about school lately. Jonathan is now at an age where he works independently quite well. We have a pretty basic routine, he knows what the expectations are and works to acheive his daily goals with litte instruction from me. I should feel great about this. Then I read other blogs and see the curricula used or the lessons being undertaken, like Latin, and I think, Oh I’m not doing enough. What if I fail to teavh him something he needs? I…

Winter Break from Learning
It’s been a busy and exciting week. All that planning last week paid off. Today at co-op we had 7 families who came as guests to our party. 5 of those families chose to register as members. What a great way to teach the children to “socialize.” We started off the day pretty rough. Last night we had heavy rains and flooding in our area. We had some water back up in the basement so my dh had to get the sump pump working. Then just as we are getting settled the power starts flickering on and off. Not just once but several times throughout the night. Since J still…

Learning and Planning
This week at the academy was filled with learning and planning. Jonathan was learning. I was planning. Our co-op has a big winter party coming up next week. Really it’s just a day to have structured fun time. Nevertheless it requires a lot of pre-planning on my part. First I had to plan a menu around food allergies or intolerances. Then I had to get other mom’s to sign up to bring said menu items. Next, I had to come up with various games and activities to keep the children busy and entertained while at the party. Then I got moms to sign up to bring the items necessary to…
