Look What I Found

This weekend was a busy one. On Friday after J’s swim and gym classes I met with some other mom’s to continue plans for Homeschool Fun Field Day. This venture has been one of those ‘If you build it, they will come’ kind of ventures. My friend Angie decided 2 years ago to start doing homeschool field day for her 5 kids and a few other friends. That first year she had 10 families attend, with rubber chickens, balloon tosses, tug of war and more, I have heard it was a great day. I was not able to attend that year which at the time I was quite sad about. Last year I made it a point to attend! We had 68 kids last year, on a Friday following several weeks of rain. The field was a mud bog. But we made it work. With pull the sled relay races, hippity hop races and of course flying monkeys, the day was filled with laughter. This year we now have a committee planning the day. Why? Because we now have 138 school age children, 30 Pre-K and 12 Nursery little ones who will need watching. So a lot of planning to be done. (Note to self: Don’t forget to order the Olympic type award medals for awards today)

Saturday we were planning to have our good friends the Perkins’ over for dinner and game night. I got up expecting to clean up, grocery shop and then cook. I carried a few things to my classroom and heard this strange little tiny crying sound. I went to investigate thinking the stray cat had her kittens just outside the basement door. I looked but could not find. So I went back in and closed the door. Once again I hear the tiny little mewing. I am convinced now it’s kittens, but where are they? Since the cat doesn’t live in our house I go back out. But again, no where to be seen. So once again I enter the basement, close the door and hear tiny little mewing. I start checking the basement and find them, up high, between the floor joists nestled into the fiberglass insulation, with no momma cat in sight, after all she does not live inside our house. So I get Beloved, he manages to get them all down, even the two who were way back in the joists. With no momma in sight, and now little man discovering the activity, it seemed that I was going to have to be momma to 5 kittens for a bit.  I don’t think she birthed them there, I think she moved them there when we had left the dog door open one day while we were out. But I hadn’t seen the stray momma for a day or two. They were hungry and mad. So milk in a dropper consumed much of my morning.
Friends The Perkins’ came over for burgers and brats. We had a good time, and suddenly momma cat appeared. I was afraid she would abandon because I had fed them. But she did not. She’s been a good momma since.

Sunday was for Worship. Then we had a celebration meal for a dear lady in our Lord’s family who turned 100 this week. Ah, sweet Ernestine. The story of her life is fascinating and very compelling. She still comes out to worship every Sunday. She greets as many people as she can get to before they all leave. She still has a mind that doesn’t miss anything and she loves as if every person she meets is her very own child. She is a true reflection of Christ’s love.
