Gentle Nudging
Sometimes ladies, for me at least, when our husbands lead we may want to get defensive. We may want to prove why our way is best. In a sense we have the right to speak what we think, but in the end we are to follow his lead. That is what we are taught in scripture. Ephesians 5:22-23“22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” We sometimes forget this second verse. We read the first part, Wives submit yourselves…

Look What I Found
This weekend was a busy one. On Friday after J’s swim and gym classes I met with some other mom’s to continue plans for Homeschool Fun Field Day. This venture has been one of those ‘If you build it, they will come’ kind of ventures. My friend Angie decided 2 years ago to start doing homeschool field day for her 5 kids and a few other friends. That first year she had 10 families attend, with rubber chickens, balloon tosses, tug of war and more, I have heard it was a great day. I was not able to attend that year which at the time I was quite sad about.…

Martha’s Family
It’s 5 Minute Friday, that means I link up with Lisa-Jo over at The Gypsy Mama. She gives us a topic and we write for five minutes. Just straight up writing, no editing, just pure freewill writing. This weeks topic – Perspective. Go. My husbands dog just climbed up on the couch next to me. I say my husbands dog because he wanted to bring her home 5 years ago when I most certainly did not. From my perspective she is his dog. From Little Man’s perspective Martha (that’s her name) belongs to him. She on the other hand isn’t quite sure. From Martha’s perspective I am the one who usually…

Great Peace on the Road
This week one of the homeschooling convention in my state begins. Since my beloved and I are going to that I am taking Little Man to my parents for the week. They live about 4 hours away. He hasn’t stayed all by himself with them before. He is super excited! My dad is too! I think my dad is a bit like a kid in a candy store about having his boy all to himself for a few days. I’ll stay tonight and tomorrow with them and head back home on Wednesday. Then off to the convention for 2 1/2 days of encouragement, research and my hands on some Math…

A Goodbye Meltdown
I’m joining the Five Minute Friday bandwagon. That means I am I will be given a topic, then am to write for 5 minutes. No more than that. No editing, just free writing. This weeks Topic: Good-bye Today was a co-op day. Because the day was so beautiful we decided to have activity time outside. They had many options for their activities today, soccer, hopscotch, sidewalk chalk, net-ball to name a few. When the time was over the parent supervisor announced that it was time to leave. That’s when Little Man began to have a melt down. He was NOT ready to say good-bye. He had been having a really…

Panic
Do you ever just panic about your home-school? Do you ever think, ‘Am I doing enough to ensure that my child is getting the best well rounded education?’ or ‘What if I completely fail and then it’s too late.’ I had that moment yesterday. It came quite by surprise. I wasn’t expecting it because I am sure that home-education is the best and right choice for my child. He’s been reading ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ yesterday he made it to chapter 6. Then I asked him about what he read and I get, “I don’t know.” Upon continued prompting he says, “I can’t remember.” So I sent him back…

Every Life is Beautiful
Do you believe every life is beautiful? You should. Scripture teaches us in Psalm 127:3&4 ” Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior so are th children of ones youth.” When I think of the choices available to my beautiful son’s birth mother, I get sick to my stomach. I’m so very grateful that she chose life! Because when he looks into my eyes with his pure innocent blue ones and says “I love you mom.” I know that every life is beautiful. I know God has a purpose for him and because…

This Week… Things I Have Learned
This week at the academy I have learned quite a few things. For those of you reading this who have not experienced home-education rest assured that moms who teach learn just as much if not more than the little ones we should be teaching. I learned that little man has grown up quite a bit, both physically and in maturity. He has worked independent of me this week. I have been able to give him a list of work to accomplish and he has delightedly and quickly accomplished his work. He needed very little help from me and on one day he even wrote his own to-do list. A couple…
