Training Up in Worship: From Infancy
Early in the year I did a series called Set Your Minds which focused on preparing your minds for Sunday morning worship. I want to begin a new series focusing on training up our children in worship. The Lord blesses families with children. But, with the blessing comes responsibility. God created man so that we will choose to worship and praise Him. How shall our children grow up to know to do that unless they are taught? Solomon wrote, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6. We’ve heard it before. It has become a…

This Week… Progress
As you can see I have made some changes to the blog. I really like the simpler look of this template. I’ve played with the code for a long time trying to get that banner to stretch across the top or even centered, and this is the best I’ve got. If anyone has suggestions on that, I’m totally open to hearing them. Regarding school, it was a relaxed week, but I feel that Little Man progressed very well with the plan. I’m so excited about Writing this week. I know what a surprise!Bible: He spent time writing the scriptures he is currently working through chapter 5 of Genesis. I will say…

This Week…Slow and Steady
This week at Great Peace Academy, Little Man worked very steadily all week. He also worked very slowly. Sometimes I struggle with knowing how to balance letting him work diligently with encouraging him to work faster. Do I morph the lesson plan to let him work at his own pace or do I hold him to the lesson plan and only skim the surface? The mom in me demands the former while the teacher who answers to the state wants the latter. It is a struggle for me and one that, after 5 years of teaching, I have still not found a solution to. Many times I wonder if my…

Five Minute Friday: To Return Home
It’s Five Minute Friday: Free writing time…. Do you like to write? Join us at Lisa-Jo Baker’s Tales of a Gypsy Mama’s Blog Party! Go. They say you can never go home again. I never really understood that until recently. Life changes things. You can visit the place where you call home, but it will never be the same as it was yesterday. People leave, trees fall down and death will come making what you remember nothing but a memory. Memories are where we find the home of our heart we seek it but won’t find it entirely. The truth is our heart seek a home not of this world.…

Spring is Coming?
We had another snow storm in Ohio last night. With all the trees down in my yard and slushy snow everywhere it kind of looks pretty dreary here… Renée Special Thanks to my friend Amanda Hilburn for the great graphic. Oh, btw she has free graphics on her website http://artbyamandahilburn.blogspot.com

A Change of Scenery
When we moved here to this house, we thought it would be a short move until we could find a landing place to call our own; we live in a rental. But once we got here, we discovered the quiet beauty of the property and have since stayed for nearly 6 years. We live in farm country but within commute distance of the city. The property backs up to a hay field and across the 2 lane road in front of the house is a beautiful farm. The house sits surrounded by trees, pines, maples, apples and a walnut. Here are a few scenes from our yard over the past…

When Creative Writing Assignments Don’t come Easy
I love Creative Writing. It’s like second nature to me. Give me a pencil and paper, these days a keyboard, mouse and open space on a computer, and I can write, write, and write some more. My favorite form of creative writing is and will always be a pencil and paper and free form thought. I love the feel of a a pencil in my hand and the scratch, scratch of it gliding across the lines of a piece of notebook paper. I love pouring my heart into words and letting the emotions fill the space. When I began homeschooling I imagined that I would with very little struggle teach…

Unexpected Beauty at Night
We live fairly close to a local lake which we drive by on a regular basis. Tonight as we were driving past something caught my eye as our headlights passed by. Beloved came to a stop and backed up he swung the vehicle around to shine the lights on it. Such a beautiful crane standing tall and proud in the mirky water. It stood there while I was able to snap a few photos. This is the best of the bunch. If you are a regular follower you know that we are studying “Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day” which is from the Young Explorers series of Apologia Science. So…
