Charlotte Mason?, you may be wondering. It’s no secret that I’m an eclectic homeschooler. But what is eclectic, really? This Week… Olympic Spirit

Embracing the Snow and IceThis post contains affiliate links which I think go perfectly with an Olympic Unit Study. Thank you for supporting Great Peace Academy. At Great Peace Academy this week I’ve abandoned the traditional text book learning and embraced the winter. With 8 new inches of snow followed by a thick layer of ice followed by some more snow AND the winter Olympic kick off, I decided a winter Olympic unit study was in order. I gathered resources and printed, printed, printed. I’m thrilled to say that my Little Man is just as excited as I am for the break in the routine. He is relishing the study as…

    This Week… Homeschool Goes On

When Public School Comes to a Stand Still All around me public schools were closed this week due to extremely cold weather. Yet, homeschool at least in my household, continued. I heard about a school district who decided to make “blizzard bags” for their students. In these bags they decided to put 5 worksheets to counteract the missed days of school and the 5 worksheets would then be equivalent to…. wait for it… 2 school days. That doesn’t include any reading assignments, just worksheets.Hmmm. 5 worksheets = 2 school days. That would mean that in my homeschool this week we finished the equivalent of apx. 10 days of school. It’s…

    This Week: Magellan Math

100 Mastery Skills Achieved in Math We of course in Ohio had another cold, cold week. The temperatures have been hovering in the single digits and I’m hearing that next week may be even colder. I’ve started making more hot tea for all of us and blankets are being used more and more. For my friends in the south complaining about being cold at 32 degrees. Stop it!…
