She Approaches Education from a Global Perspective

Meet Tassie. Her story has inspired me for years. Why? Because she doesn’t think of her home and family as a house with four walls located in one place in the world. Rather, in my opinion, she sees all of the world as her home. Tassie Helene Smith and her family, though American, lived abroad for many years. Due to language barriers she and her husband determined that the best course for education of their two daughters was to homeschool. Yet, both Tassie and her husband worked full-time outside of the home during those years.  Her Global Perspective She and her husband Kevin worked as English teachers in a University…

Keeping Her Eye Focused on the Values she wants to Teach

Today I’d like to introduce you to homeschool mom LaBeth Brewer. I was privileged to meet her in real life last month at an annual church lectureship my family attends in Tennessee. She and her family were so sweet and it was an honor to meet her.  Let me tell you a bit about LaBeth’s family and why she’s a superhero homeschool mom. Learning is important in the Brewer household, in fact, in the last few years every member of the Brewer family has been in school in one sense or another. LaBeth’s husband was a school of preaching student, LaBeth is in grad school and of course the children are…

She Wanted to See the Spark of Learning Light their Eyes

Susan W. is a homemaking mom to 3 children. She began home education 18 years ago having successfully graduated 2 of her children. While the third child, age 10, has several years remaining in their family school. When asked what it was that led her to homeschool, the answer might be kind of surprising. “I used to teach in public school. I spent time in K and in third grade. I loved my time there, and LOVED seeing the light bulbs turn on over kids’ heads as they caught a concept. I wanted to be the one having all that fun with my own children.” Susan’s husband, John, is a military man,…

Homeschool Art Curriculum That’s Easy to Teach

Homeschool art might seem out of the realm of possibility. Let’s face it, not everyone has the talent or experience to teach art skills to kids.   But, guess what? We don’t have to know everything or be talented in every subject that we want our kids to learn. Homeschool Art is no exception. By utilizing a homeschool art curriculum that incorporates step-by-step how to instruction along with some tutorial videos you can teach art in homeschool.    There are certain things that I really love about homeschooling. One of them is watching my son happily working through an art project. Art is something that comes naturally to him, unlike myself. He…

    Homeschool Photo Day 2015-2016

It’s amazing how much a child can change in one year! Jonathan turns 12 this year as we start our 7th grade year. There is so many things that have changed in our life and I’m amazed at the incredible young man he is growing in to. He is so tall! I wasn’t ready for him to grow almost eye to eye with me, but he’s almost there. I also wasn’t prepared for the transition to the men’s department at the store. Rant: Ok, Why is it that for girls you go from infant, to toddler clothes, to girls clothing to juniors, then women’s, while for boys you go from…

Updating the Homeschool Classroom for Middle School

I’m having a hard time realizing that my Little Man is growing up. This year we are entering the 7th grade as far as homeschooling goes. As I stood in the homeschool classroom this year and looked around I was struck with how much he has grown. I looked at his desk and realized that it was too small for the almost teen that he is. I mean we now have to buy his clothes in the men’s department.  Taking a Closer Look at our Homeschool Classroom So I had to look at the room with a different lens. I moved my desk to the middle of the room, and now…
