Gifted Learning Curiosity
Encouraging a Desire to Learn Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links for products you may purchase through external sites. I woke up to discover my son had been up for a while. As I made breakfast for myself, (he had already ate). I asked him what he was doing. His response surprised me. “I’m reading the encyclopedias.” Obviously, his learning curiosity has kicked in. “Oh, really? What are you reading?” “I wanted to know more about the states, so I’m going through the encyclopedias to learn about them.” I don’t know why I should be surprised, that’s something he used to do. He would learning curiosity about something and then figure out…

Learning the German Language in Homeschool
An Ear for Foreign Languages I can remember when my son was about 2 years old and one day we were driving into the city, Columbus, and on the way, he was sitting in his car seat chattering away. I thought, at first, that he was just talking nonsensical toddler speak. Then I recognized that he was counting… in German. I recognized it as German because I had taken a German course in high school and still remembered the alphabet, numbers and a few phrases. To say I was stunned would be an understatement because I had never taught him to count in German. Disclosure: This review of Middlebury Interactive…

First Day of Homeschool 6th Grade
This is our 7th year of homeschooling, so with Kinder, Young Man’s “6th Grade” year. We don’t generally follow grade levels. However, we do for Bible class at church so when asked he answers whatever the grade level he is there. Disclosure: There may be affiliate or sales link within this post. We started the day off with breakfast (cereal and juice for him, toast and coffee for me), then getting dressed and chores. I am so glad that a few weeks back, before I went out of town for a week and a half, that I spent a good amount of time going through our new curriculum, and writing…

Life at the Academy
Not Back to School: A Day in the Life Homeschool at Great Peace Academy has never looked like a typical classroom. We are not rise and shine kind of people. At least I am not a rise n shine kind of girl. So I usually sleep until around 9 or 9:30 a.m. Then I have a cup of coffee and maybe a bowl of cereal. What’s that? Oh yes, my child. Well let’s see, he gets up on his own, makes his own breakfast (usually cereal or toast or yogurt n fruit). Then spends a little time drawing pictures. Have I mentioned that he draws pictures during most of his…
