    Ladies, Learning and Lunch

I was privilege today with a great learning opportunity! My friend was asked to speak at a Ladies Inspiration Day. She asked me to go along with her. Last night I went and spent the night at her home so that we could leave bright and early today. She has an 8 1/2 month old baby in her house right now who is cutting teeth. The little one did not sleep well, thus those in the home did not sleep well. Early this morning we got ready and were on the road by 6 AM. We stopped at the local McD’s on the way for breakfast and coffee. I must say that…

Five Minute Friday– Feeling a Part

For the longest time, I felt like I would never really fit in with a community group. I was always feeling like I was left out. Shortly after marriage all of our friends began having babies. We did not. They moved on with their lives and their children, we were left behind. This continued for 12 years of our marriage. We struggled to fit in with others who were our age because they were in the ‘mommy and daddy’ mode of life while we remained decidedly NOT in that category. Then God sent us Little Man. Our joy was complete. Yet, what I realized was that the other parents who…

    Learning About Gifted Education

Since Little Man was an infant my Beloved and I have marveled at his unusual abilities. We wondered how it was possible for him to do the things he could do. Others would use words like exceptional, gifted, highly gifted or even genius. We hesitated to speak those words out loud, after all every parent thinks their child is a genius. Right? But learning about gifted education puts everything into perspective. This post contains affiliate ad links. While still others who couldn’t accept that a child who is intelligent could also have intense emotions have tried to label with words and boxes that just don’t fit. I have always known…

    Looking Forward

I’m looking forward to this trip. My beloved and I are heading to the convention! I want to share with you some of te reasons why I look forward to this! I’m looking forward to being in  a place where every person I meet or sit next to, has some understanding of what I do and why. I’m looking forward to not having to explain how I ‘sociaize’ my child. I’m looking forward to classes that will help me to understand additional learning styles, educational philosophies and legal concerns. I’m looking forward to this years  Educating Gifted Students track. Maybe I can get some better ideas. I’m also looking forward…

    The Search Is On

It is that time of year again. Home Education Mom’s everywhere are recieving new catalogs in the mail, email offers, as well as attending conferences and conventions. These moms are on the hunt. No, not for big game to feed their families with, but rather the hunt for their next great home schooling curriculum and hopefully at a really great bargain! I am not immune to this phenonmenon. I imagine the boost to the economy is great, but perhaps that is my own puffed up opinion of how much influence home educators have in this country.  😉 “What’s all the fuss about?” you might ask if you are not a…

    It’s Friday

I’m sitting at the rec center while Little Man is in gym class. Normally I take the opportunity to talk with other moms ir dads and enjoy some adult convo.  Most of my mom friends have abandoned this gym for another option in the area. So I’m just hanging… This Friday is a non co-op one. We skipped some material this week and have opted for school this afternoon. Normally we don’t school on Friday, just extra-curriculars, service projects, down time, or errands. I’d really rather go shopping. However we have the possibility for severe weather this afternoon so, probably not the best idea to be out and about. That…

    Fear of What Comes Next

Since he was very young I knew that I was dealing with a child of unusual abilities, especially when it comes to math. I sent him off to Montessori pre-school thinking they would help me get a handle on his unusual ability to retain numbers, he was four at the time and already knew and understood the concepts of both addition and subtraction.  Then one day out of sheer frustration, because I could see he hungered for more, I started showing him the multiplication facts. Within an hour he had memorized all of the facts to 10X10. Yep, you read that right, at age 4 he learned the multiplication table. Within…

    Juggling the Proverbial Balls

I’m starting to feel as if I have too many balls in the air. Don’t get me wrong. Everything I am doing is good stuff. The problem is these  activities are taking time away from family time. I know I should pull out of some things, yet the thought of determining which things brings me stress, and I’m afraid potentially bring inadvertent hurt to others.  I’m involved in 5 different Bible Studies outside of family studies and regular worship studies. One takes 2 evenings every week, another is for the 3rd and 4th grade class at our congregation. Then there is a group study with ither members ofmour church family…
