Making Some Changes
I’ve been making some changes. Mostly they are heart changes. Decisions I make within myself about how I want to approach life. How I want to proceed with various aspects of what I do. I find myself often, stretched too thin. Then comes the question. What do I give up? Beloved tells me I need to learn to prioritize, but doesn’t often suggest what order to do that in. So I am left with prayer. Wow, that sounds like I consider prayer a mundane thing, which I do not.Prayer is powerful, God centered, sharing my heart with Him. He already knows my heart because He created it and me. But,…

Flying Through Summer with Creatures of the 5th Day
For the first time in my life I am doing summer school. Yes, you heard me right. I am the self-proclaimed homeschool teacher who said, summer school was for the birds. Yes, it is for the birds, that is why we will be doing summer school, the birds. We have spent the year in Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Zoology 1, Flying Creatures of the 5th Day. It has been a good study and I wish I could say that we are finished. However we are not. We will continue science through the summer. With the hopes of completing it so we can begin Zoology 2, Swimming Creatures of the 5th…

This Week… Ah Summer Weather
We have had a long, long, long winter. I feel like we didn’t really have a spring. In fact just last week we had frost on the ground. But this week summer weather has arrived. Little Man made a choice a couple of months ago, he decided he wants to do Apologia’s Exploring Creatures of the Fifth Day, Swimming Creatures. But he wasn’t finished with Flying creatures, so I told him he’d have to do it in summer. He agreed. So Tuesday and Wednesday he worked in science, writing and math. In Science he continued his study of Insects. He really likes it, and he’s working without any grumbling or…

The Social Lives of Gifted Children
Help for Parents of Gifted Children What would you do if you found that your little one struggles to find their place in the world? This is one of those questions I find myself considering often. With a gifted mind comes unique behaviors and idiosyncrasies that often cause a child to stand out among society as “different.” You’ve seen it before, a group of children where one is isolated, left alone; and for whatever reason the larger group simply steers clear. I don’t think even they can explain why, just that there is something different about the child, and therefore they leave them alone. I’ve witnessed it time and again with…

This Week… Working Through
This Week...I’m so ready to be done with school. Our usual school year would have ended this week. However, this will be the first year that we are continuing into summer. I’m not happy about this, however it has been his decision to finish “Flying Creatures” so we can move into “Swimming Creatures” in the fall. I admire his willingness to dedicate his summer to continued study. He also will continue in Math, well, because he likes it so much. I’m going to continue to encourage him to write. I’m going to give him a journal and let him write whatever he wants through the summer. I simply can’t believe…

News from Nashville
My trip to the Teach Them Diligently Conference in Nashville was was some wonderful girl time with my friend Sam, with lots of laughter and good conversation, with even a ghost story for us to share, wink wink. It is always wonderful to share time with a sister in the Lord of like minded faith. I loved having the opportunity to meet the Kelley family. There is a great deal of laughter in that house! Her children are funny, welcoming and full of energy! But it was also a productive venture. I found a writing curriculum that I feel will be beneficial to Little Man. It’s called Write Shop. I…

This Week… Conferences & Calculus?
View from our room So this week… What can I say about this week. Ya’ll know I headed to Music City, aka Nashville, for the Teach Them Diligently Conference. I think the good Lord has blessed me with a tremendous friendship that started online, found out we were both members of the same body of Christians and our friendship turned to sisterhood in an instant. I’m honored to have been asked. This Week, Little Man…Literature:Continued his reading in “The Little House on the Prairie” by Laura Ingalls Wilder. While technically this is a school assignment, I am letting him explore the classic, so that he will take away from it a…
