Heading to Music City with A Stop Over in the Bluegrass State
So I spent the day Monday doing laundry. Washing, drying, folding and putting away. It’s done. Except for what we have worn today the laundry is complete. Yesterday I was supposed to be focused on packing and straightening up the house, but I just couldn’t seem to get into gear. I’m so stinking excited about the trip to the Teach Them Diligently Conference in Nashville that I wanted to just peruse the website, check out the conferences, one more time, to see if I might have missed something. Read up a bit on the vendors to see who I might want to visit. But I really do need to focus…I will be…

Misdiagnosis of Gifted Children
Moms Know Their Children Best As a homeschool parent to an advanced learner, I want to recommend products which I find to be beneficial to my son. I do this through affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy for full details. Thank you for your support of Great Peace Academy. I knew, as I sat in that doctor’s office when Little Man was 4 years old. I knew without a doubt that what was being spewed out of that doctor’s mouth, a doctor who literally had just walked into the room meeting us for the first time, was wrong, oh so wrong. As I tried with all of my being to say that…

Training up in Worship: Discipline
There comes a time in every training up when a child will need to be disciplined. As parents we are responsible to teach, train and encourage our children in proper behavior. Additionally we are called to train them up in the “training and admonition of the Lord.” *Ephesians 6:4. Admonishment is for the purpose of instruction in righteousness. As often happens our children become anxious when expected to sit quietly for too long. Especially if they haven’t been trained from very early on to do such. Remember that consistency along with repetition are key elements in training a child in worship. They learn what is expected when we are consistently…

This Week… End of the Year Awards Night
This week… I was prepping for our Homeschool Support Group’s Open House & Award’s Night. So Little Man was set on a course of Independent work. I cannot say that I am entirely pleased with the results. Literature: He read several chapters in his latest read, “The Little House on the Prairie” by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Math:He worked with Khan Academy. This week he attained mastery in Statistical Interpretation of Data. It requires 10 skills to achieve mastery of this subject and he did this in about 2 days worth of lessons. I think that is pretty awesome.Science: Little Man read Lesson 8 and began working in his notebooking journal of Apologia’s Zoology…

This Week…Diligent Work with a Fun Find
This week…With being away at my parents 2 days of this week, it was a whirlwind of a week in trying to get our school work in. But Little Man worked diligently on the lessons assigned. I wonder if it’s because he wants to get it done so he can go out and play or if he sees the finish line of the academic year approaching and is trying to race to get it done, without carry over into summer. Either way, this is pleasing to this teacher/mama and makes me one happy girl. Bible:Even though he has finished his lessons in Bible Study Guide for All Ages, that does…

Training Up in Worship: Bible Lessons
Bible Training for Children Continuing on with training up in worship and setting the standard we come to helping our children to focus on and participating in the Bible lesson portion of worship. While singing, giving, prayer and passing of the communion trays show active participation getting a child to sit still for 20 or 30 minutes, or more, for an adult led/focused Bible lesson seems impossible. But remember what Jesus said: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26b. I understand where you are coming from. I really do. Years ago when we had foster children, I started out agreeing with that thought. Then one…

This Week… Beginning the Wind-Down
This was one of those weeks that I just simply love. Little Man worked diligently on his own with little complaining. In fact he finished his entire week in 3 days. That makes for an easy week, esp. since we decided to go out of town from Thursday through Monday morning. So no need to worry about schooling. We are sort of in school wind-down mode anyway. He has completed his spelling curriculum and he finished Bible this week as well. He also finished reading the Iliad for Boys and Girls. So we will do some more immersion into Ancient Greek History along with his Art study and he will…

Acceleration: What is it?
To Advance or Not to Advance? Very recently there has been a story running viral around the internet about the Harding family that has sent 6 children of their 10 children to college by age 12. You can see the story, from the Today Show News here: Meet the family who sent six kids to college by age 12 I’ve watched with fascination different people on facebook give their opinions as to whether they think this family is doing a great thing for their children or if they think they are simply nuts. I’ve watched and not commented even though every fiber of my being wanted to comment, support and…
