    Teaching Keyboarding Skills

With Keyboard Classroom Working with Keyboard Classroom as an affiliate marketer and a reviewer means that I can share with you an honest review of the product while teaching keyboarding skills to my son, and I can earn a small commission if you choose to purchase the product for your own homeschool. Beginning Typing When my Little Man was my little boy we were constantly surprised at how talented he was in so many areas. When he was 2 1/2 he became fascinated with the keyboard on the computer. He would go to it and pick out the ABC’s and we would just sit and watch in fascination. Before long…

    This Week-Piano Lessons Return

Settling in to 2014 With snow being so prevalent this year many of our activities have been cancelled or postponed. This week Piano lessons started again, gym lessons started, and our LEGO club started back up. But even with all of the outside activities we still managed to get a full week of school completed.  Bible: In Bible Little Man learned the importance of obedience to God. He learned about King Saul and how Saul made decisions that were of his own choosing even though he claimed they were what God commanded. In the end there were consequences for Saul. I pointed used the lesson to explain that even today…

Turning the Clock Back to Yesterday’s Homeschool

Advice to My Younger Self  When I was starting out as a newbie homeschool mom I had this overwhelming fear. Looking back I now realize that the fear stemmed from a place of pride. Pride? you say.Yes, pride. You see I was worried, afraid that others would not approve of, understand or support my decision. So I found myself trying to prove how great homeschooling was. I was always on the defensive, I was speaking as if I had to prove something to someone, yet, never being sure of who it was I was trying to prove it too or even what exactly IT was. Interestingly, I am not one…

Attendance is a Must for Homeschoolers I am thrilled to be an affiliate blogger for Great Homeschool Conventions who are sponsors of my blog because I truly love to go to the convention in Cincinnati.  This spring will be my fourth trip and I am looking forward to going more than ever!  I’ve been to other conventions and I really feel that nothing compares to what they have to offer. I’ve learned much, laughed a lot, cried tears of relief, and always walk away feeling refreshed and encouraged for one more year.  10 Reasons To Go to GHC So many vendors they can’t fit them all on one webpage! Teaching Fine Arts in Homeschool

When Your Child has a Passion for Art Art and music appreciation are both subjects that can enhance all areas of learning.  Sometimes, it’s overlooked in favor of core subjects. Homeschool art can be simple letting kids explore hands on artistic pursuits on their own while you provide them with great tools.  Homeschool music can start with teaching them how to listen quietly to great music.    Teaching fine arts comes easy for me even though I’m not very artistic. Why? You may ask. Because,it comes very easy to my son. He draws all day long. He hums all day long. He has a heart for rhythm and music and…

    How I Teach History

When Biblical History Meets World History We often hear how today’s modern education teaches science from an evolution world view and many people are choosing home education because of it. The subject I was excited to teach in homeschool was and still is, history. History is also taught from an evolution world view, in fact it’s taught so soundly in history that logical argument against the theory is made very difficult. In this post you will find affiliate products that I use to teach history in my homeschool. I believe history began when science began. I believe they are so closely linked they can not be separated. I believe that history (and…

Teaching Science with a Rabbit Trail

Exploring Science  With My Gifted Learner Like math, my son loves science. He loves reading science books even when we aren’t in school. Within this post I am sharing links to affiliate products which I find to be beneficial to teaching science to my son. In fact, he asked me over the summer to buy Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy even though we were planning to do Swimming Creatures in our school. He didn’t want to switch to astronomy for the coming year, he wanted it just to read. He spent much of the summer simply reading the text book. That is exactly how science goes in our home. He…

    Advancing Math Instruction

For the Gifted Homeschool Student Anyone who regularly follows this blog already knows that my son is advanced in Math. It comes easy to him and each and every challenge he is presented with he takes it head-on and doesn’t back down until he has mastered it. That’s why I am comfortable advancing him to work in areas which challenge his knowledge level.    I love using Khan Academy to teach Math in my homeschool. In fact, I often get asked “How do you use it?” Many people think it is simply a place to find videos when in reality it is a complete program.    They have additional subjects…
