This Week… Sickness and School
Sickness pervaded our home this week. Little Man got sick over the past weekend. It was NOT a pretty sight. He’s better although it did take him a few days to be back to himself. In the meantime, Beloved came down with something entirely different. He slept for 21 hours on Monday with the exception of bathroom breaks. He was down and out for a good 3 days, not feeling good. I had a couple of days of just that blah feeling. Tired and overall no energy. I seem to also be feeling better after a couple of days.So with all the sickness, homeschool took a back seat. We did…

Five Minute Friday:Roots & 30 Days Link Ups
The crest of the mountain in whose shadow I grew up. Love to write? Me too! That’s why on Friday’s I join in with the flash mob over at Lisa-Jo Baker’s The Gypsy Mama Blog to spend 5 glorious moments writing freestyle. Unencumbered by silly things like grammar and editing, well not much editing anyway. Funny how the 5-Minute prompt this week goes along with my 30 Days to Give Thanks Link also. I wrote that one first then popped over to Lisa-Jo’s blog to see what the prompt was. Today’s: Roots Go.This past year a dear friend allowed me to use her Ancestry.com account to do a little family root…

Little Man Big Emotions
Emotional Intensity in the Gifted Child I have been struggling this week and last as the teacher of a child with emotional intensity and asynchronous tendencies. Last spring I really began to research gifted and talented tendencies in children. First, let me say that I believe all children have unique gifts and talents. This identification is in my opinion a misnomer. That being said, they are the terms used by educators, psychologists, pediatricians and scientist used to describe people who have a higher IQ than the average person. Beloved and I have not yet chosen to have our son’s IQ tested. Even among the experts there are very mixed opinions…

A Differentiated Family Night
Since starting school I have a new school planner. I love it. It’s the The Ultimate Homeschool Planner by Debra Bell and published by Apologia Press. In the front there is a page for setting family priorities for the year. One of the goals I set this year as a family priority (with my husbands approval of course) was to try and have a family night. This is sometimes difficult with various activities but we are trying. Last night was a spur of the moment family night. We usually intend to try to do this on Thursday, but at dinner we started talking about a new game that Little Man got for…

Marriage Moment: A Fitly Spoken Word
Proverbs 25:11” A word fitly spoken is like apples of goldIn settings of silver.”How do you speak to your husband? So often I hear women here and there speaking to their spouses as if they were children. I hear women talk down to them, or speak with fits of hatred in their voice. This is My Beloved Man How do you speak to your husband? God designed for our men to be the head of our family. Would you go into the CEO’s office at a multi-million dollar company and speak to them in disrespectful tone? Why then, would we speak to the CEO of our families in that way. You see our spouses…

Marriage Moment: The Wise Wife
“The wise woman builds her house,” This is a quote from Proverbs 14:1. When I think about this I am reminded of times in my life when I was not being a Wise Woman but rather a foolish one. There were times when I prioritized many things over that of my relationship with my husband. Marriage requires change. I had to decide to change, realizing that I can’t change him, I only can change me. I began to realize that if I want my marriage to work, I have to build my house. I have to place my husband as the highest of priorities, 2nd only to my relationship to…
